1. Get enough good quality sleep.
7-8 hours a day of good quality un-interrupted sleep can boost both your mental and physical health.
2. Eat a healthy diet.
Healthy body, healthy mind.
3. Get regular exersise.
Doesn't have to be at the gym. Fast walking, keeping active can be enough to increase our circulation and maintain a healthy body. Running, swimming or anything more vigorous that increases our heart rate, will also stimulate the release of endorphins, a feel-good hormone.
4. Focus on the here and now.
Harder to achieve than it sounds. A good way to start is to concentrate on the task you are doing. For example if you are washing the dishes, concentrate on how you are performing that task, every movement, the plates and pots, in other words focus on the task wholly. This is a grounding exersise, which can help by bring our attention to the present when we are distracted by distressing events from the past or worrying about the future.
5. Give yourself some downtime.
Take time out to take care of your self, pamper yourself, spend quality time with yourself. You deserve it. Sit and think, have a massage, do something you enjoy, do nothing, write your thoughts, have a treat, ....
